Turkey is the world’s leading destination for dental tourism — but once you’ve decided on Turkey, you face a second choice: Istanbul or Antalya? Both cities have excellent, internationally accredited clinics, so this isn’t about “good vs bad.” It’s about logistics, cost and what you want your recovery week to feel like.
Full disclosure: we’re Smile Dental Turkey, a clinic in Antalya — so we’re not neutral. But we’ve kept this comparison honest, because plenty of patients genuinely are better suited to Istanbul, and the factors below apply whichever city (and clinic) you choose.
The short answer: choose Istanbul if you want to combine treatment with big-city sightseeing or you’re flying from a country with direct flights only to Istanbul. Choose Antalya if you want a calmer, cheaper, beach-side recovery with short transfers — which is why most UK and European dental tourists end up here.

The Case for Istanbul
Istanbul is Turkey’s largest city and has the country’s biggest concentration of dental clinics. Its genuine advantages:
- Flight connections: Istanbul Airport is one of the world’s best-connected hubs. If you’re flying from the US, Asia or a smaller European city, you may only have direct flights to Istanbul.
- The city itself: if you’ve always wanted to see Hagia Sophia, the Grand Bazaar and the Bosphorus, treatment gives you the excuse.
- Choice: more clinics than any other Turkish city — though more choice also means more homework separating the excellent from the average.
The trade-offs: Istanbul’s traffic is famous for a reason — a “30-minute” clinic transfer can take well over an hour, and you’ll make that trip several times during treatment. Central hotels cost more, and recovering from oral surgery in a hectic megacity isn’t everyone’s idea of rest.
The Case for Antalya
Antalya is Turkey’s Mediterranean tourism capital — and over the last decade it has become the country’s dental-tourism hub for UK and European patients. Its advantages:
- Everything is close: the airport, hotels, beaches and clinics sit within a compact area. Our clinic is around 20 minutes from Antalya Airport, with VIP transfers door to door.
- A recovery that feels like a holiday: between appointments you’re on Konyaaltı or Lara beach, wandering the Kaleiçi old town, or shopping at TerraCity — not sitting in traffic.
- Lower costs overall: treatment prices are similar across Turkey, but Antalya’s lower rents and hotel prices mean all-inclusive packages (hotel, transfers, flight support) stretch further here.
- Built for international patients: the city runs on tourism, so English is widely spoken and clinics are set up around fly-in patients as the norm, not the exception.
One seasonal note: Antalya’s Mediterranean climate gives you beach weather from spring well into autumn — though July and August are genuinely hot (often mid-30s °C). If you’d prefer milder recovery weather, May–June and September–October are the sweet spot, and the clinic and hotels are air-conditioned year-round.
The trade-offs: fewer long-haul direct flights than Istanbul (usually no issue from the UK or Europe, where direct Antalya routes are plentiful), and it’s a resort city rather than a world metropolis — which is either a downside or exactly the point, depending on what you want.
Is the Quality Different Between the Two Cities?
No — and be wary of anyone who claims otherwise. Both cities operate under the same Turkish Ministry of Health regulation, the same accreditation system, and both have outstanding (and average) clinics. What About Prices?
Treatment prices are broadly similar nationwide — a zirconium crown or a Neodent implant costs much the same in either city, and both are typically 50–70% below UK prices. The differences show up around the edges. In Istanbul, central hotels cost more, and the repeated taxi rides between hotel and clinic — several appointments a week, through heavy traffic — can quietly add £50–£100+ in fares over a treatment trip. In Antalya, packages usually bundle accommodation and VIP transfers into one number, so those hidden extras simply don’t exist.
